Preventative Medicine is Better than the Cure! – Health and Fitness through Dancing

Roz DeBeve, God Bless You for all you taught me, the great things you showed me, and all the love you shared with me.
When I was young, Roz could see that I was going to make a life mistake, even before I did. She would say, “If you do this now, these will be the repercussions.” She would tell us all to think before we did something that would not only affect our lives, but the lives of those around us.
One of her favorite sayings was, “God had perfect mathematics when He gave us two ears and one mouth. Listen twice as much as you speak and you will have a happy and successful life.” The words have proved true in my life. This translates into “Think before you speak”. Wow, I’m still working on that one. There is a verse that reads: “It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”
How many times do we say, “I wish I hadn’t said that”. Or we say something that really hurts someone and we regret our words. As a person on a weight loss journey, I can get caught up in what is going into my mouth, but I know deep inside that if my heart was happier, and my spirit was uplifted, that I would not need to eat so much and I would naturally be at my ideal weight.
What if we could look back in time and change some of our actions and words? What if we could make amends for the mistakes and bad choices we have made? What if we all had a second chance in life?
In ballroom dancing, we have a mind trick. On a lesson prior to a competition, we pretend it is the first lesson after the comp. We say to one another, “Wow, I wish I could go back and do it all over again”. What would we have done differently? How would we have changed our performance? We then say, “Hey, Guess what? We have a comp in two weeks. Let’s fix all our mistakes and do it right this time!” This is a wonderful play on the mind and helps us take our Preventative Medicine early so we CAN Experience the Cure!
This life is not a dress rehearsal, this is the only run through we get for this present journey. Let’s take a minute to think before we speak, contemplate before we act, and make the best decisions in our lives. Peace to you all!
Next week: It Will Get Better!
Very Sincerely,
David Woodbury
